Hobart Barbee Obituary

After graduating from Lincoln High School, Calip enlisted with the US Navy in July 1964. Calip served as an EN3 Seaman aboard USS Wilhoite where he also held the 1965 Hawaiian Interservice middleweight boxing title. Calip was honorably discharged in September 1967.
After military service, Calip went on to work for the Rock Island Railroad as a conductor and enjoyed an early retirement from the Chassis Line at General Motors, Fairfax Plant. Calip enjoyed bodybuilding, fishing and spending time with grandchildren.
Calip is preceded in death by his parents, and loving sister Wilma Joyce Taylor.
Left to cherish Calip's memory is his partner and wife of 54 years, Velverene Barbee; son Courtney Connor (Lynise); daughters Shelly Barbee & Roxane Hancock (Charles); grandchildren Brittany & Mariah Connor, Montel Ratliff, Cyrus, Cenae' & Chiya Hancock, Christopher Alexander; niece Marguerite Taylor; nephew Earl Jeffery Taylor; and a host of family and friends.
Graveside services will be held Friday, October 18, 2024, 12:30pm at Forest Hill Cemetery. Services conducted by Watkins Hertiage Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
