COVENTRY- Holmes "Chip" Lomas III, 69, of Coventry, formerly of Barrington, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024 surrounded by his family at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence.
Born in Fort Lee, VA, he was the beloved son of Jane Webster (Troppoli) Lomas and the late Holmes Lomas II.
Chip's love for nature, particularly trees and flowers, started as a young man. He started a landscaping business, Chip Lomas Lawn Services, in Barrington while in high school. He continued this until moving to Coventry in 1989. He worked in the automotive industry for a decade until returning to landscaping. He then got his commercial driver's license and traveled the country as a long-distance hauler. In the last two years, he transitioned to street maintenance. He enjoyed plowing the interstate.
In his free time, Chip loved to be in his boat out on the water and quahogging. He often had a video camera in hand ready to document both the day-to-day and special events. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He certainly knew how to have a good time and was known for the MadHatter Parties. He never was one to pass up a good sale or deal.
He was preceded in death by his father, Holmes Lomas II.
He is survived by his two children, Victoria N. Davenport and her husband Jacob of Newport, ME and Tyler J. Lomas of Walpole, MA; two grandchildren, Aurelia and Juniper; his mother, Jane W. Lomas of Coventry; sister, Wendy J. Jendro and her husband Stephen of Carnation, WA; and brother, George G. Lomas III and his wife Karen of Naples, FL.
His funeral service will be held Monday, February 19, 2024 at 2PM with visitation to follow until 4PM at Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Rd., Lincoln. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Arbor Day Foundation and donating a tree in his memory.

I just heard this sad news. Lots of memories for sure. His loft/attic apartment with a separate entry above the garage. Lots of parties and pool games. Chip playing the drums. His orange truck. A trip to MD in November, I'll never forget, in his truck with the open truck bed and mattresses with lots of blankets.
