Homer Wayne Garber, age 97, of Versailles, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. He was born on June 17, 1928, on his family's farm outside of Versailles, the son of the late Edwin and Elizabeth (Diener) Garber.
On July 20, 1954, at the Bethel Mennonite Church near Fortuna, Homer was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Twila (Hilty) Garber. Together, they shared seventy-one wonderful years of marriage.
Homer served in civilian service assigned to the alternative service program under the Selective Service System, where he worked at General Hospital in Kansas City.
A devoted member of Bethel Fellowship Church, Homer served in many capacities over the years. He was a founding member of the Farm Bureau in Morgan County and contributed his time to the Morgan County R-II School Board, Morgan County Library Board, Morgan County Extension, and the Optimist Club.
Homer was a passionate farmer, transforming the family farm into Homer's Hog Farm, which became a gathering place for family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, leading by example in both his work and his faith. Homer's heart for serving the Lord and others was evident throughout his life, as he dedicated himself to his family, his farm, and his community. His legacy of hard work, integrity, and devotion will continue to inspire all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Twila; his children, Stanley Garber and wife Karen of Versailles, Missouri, Jerry Garber of California, Steve Garber and wife Lynn of Versailles, Missouri, Carla Garber of Blairstown, Missouri, and Barry Garber and wife Lauren of Ballwin, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Mary Gehman of Ohio and Rosella Fulks of Tipton, Missouri; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. In addition to his parents, Homer was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond, Robert, Dennis, Ed, Bill, and Norman Garber; and his sisters, Pauline Wulff, Ina McCormick, Lena Alexander, Velma Reiss, and Violet Garber.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 18th, at Bethel Fellowship Church, with Brother Frank Whitney officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 17th, at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorial contributions are suggested to Bethel Fellowship Church or Hospice Compassus.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
