Sargent Horace S. Bacon ("Sarge")
January 29, 1941 – November 8, 2025
Sargent Horace S. Bacon, lovingly known as "Sarge," of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born in North Middletown, Kentucky, on January 29, 1941.
Horace was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Sharon L. Bacon; his daughter, Sandra R. Bacon Regan; his grandchildren, Brandon Bishop, Jessica Harrison, and Austin Regan; his great-grandchildren, Ivan and Orion Bishop; and his brother and sister-in-law, Steve and JoAnn Bacon. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Janet L. Harrison.
Horace proudly served in the United States Army for three and a half years, training at Fort Knox and Fort Gordon, Georgia, as a Military Police officer before being stationed in Alaska. After completing his military service, he continued his lifelong dedication to protecting others as a police officer in Washington, D.C., and later with the Lexington Police Department, where he served for 25 years and retired with great honor and respect.
To know Horace was to know laughter, loyalty, and love. He had a heart of gold and never hesitated to help anyone in need. His sense of humor, quick wit, and ability to make light of any situation made him truly unforgettable. He loved his family more than anything and found his greatest joy in being a husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandfather.
Horace enjoyed boating, fixing things around the house, making people laugh, spending time with family, and cheering on UK basketball and the Cincinnati Reds. His laughter, warmth, and compassion touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Christ Centered Church in Lexington, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a service at 2:00 p.m., led by Pastor Willie Cole.
A graveside service will take place on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Horace's memory to Sunny Shores Sea Camp, a camp for children with cystic fibrosis, at SunnyShoresSeaCamp.com or by mail to 201 East Pine Street, Suite 500, Orlando, Florida 32801. In memory of Horace.

To Sharon, Sandy and family. We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Horace. He was a great friend and a mentor to me, when I was a young police officer myself. He showed me how to be compassionate and kind to anyone who crossed our paths. He was a great instructor! Coming to your house, while on duty, to grab lunch or dinner was always a good thing as well.

Matthew 5:9 says, Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God. Cherish his memories, for he will never leave your side. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you all. You will be missed Sergeant Bacon!

Yours in Christ, Keith and Donna Howard.
