Howard Upton Bodkin, age 80, of Monroe, Georgia, died February 7, 2026. He was born in Augusta, Georgia, to Thomas Bodkin, Sr., and Anne Isabelle Smith Bodkin. "Hobo", as he named himself, lived a life full of pep and vitality—always on a road of adventure!
As a young boy, Howard attended Christ the King Elementary School and was a graduate of St. Pius X Catholic High School. He furthered his education at Kennesaw College, graduated from West Georgia College and later received a Masters Degree from Georgia State University. An advocate for handicapped children, Howard taught school before developing a business to hire the handicapped. He always loved to see these special persons discover new ways of learning and prospering. Due to health reasons, he retired at age 40 and assisted others in real estate development and antiquing. In his later years, Howard’s love for history and interest in how things were valued due to their age and origin led him to own and operate antique stores in South Carolina and Georgia.
He had a passion for helping others in a quiet manner and possessed a deep love for his Lord. It was through a singles' club he started at his church that he met Brenda Daniel Bodkin, his beloved wife of 53 years. Together they traveled and moved 20 times to new ventures.
Hobo was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Tom Bodkin; and his special aunts, Katherine Smith and Dorothy Smith. He is survived by his wife, and niece, Joyce Reid.
The Good Lord led him and guided him through his last 20 years or so of dealing with Lewy Body Dementia. He now has peace with God eternally!!!
A celebration of life will be held 11:30 AM, Saturday, February 14, at Loganville Christian Church with a reception to follow.
