Howard Samuel Burns Jr.
Howard Samuel Burns passed away on the evening of Tuesday, November 11, 2025. He had been recovering from foot surgery and had become ill a few days before his death. He was taken by ambulance when his heart stopped. He was taken to Passavant Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His sister Barbara Burns was laid to rest only one day before his death.
Howard was a gentle soul who would drop everything to help someone else. He was seen daily on the stupp of his home, where he lived on Avery Street on the North Side. He was there giving out treats to all the dogs from the neighborhood. He knew all their names and knew their preference for treats. Most of his life, Howard worked as an independent contractor in the construction industry.
He was the son of Howard Samuel Burns Sr. and Alice Katheryn Burns, both deceased. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann (Pouch) Burns (Piitsburgh, PA) his sister Patricia (Burns) Madia (McCandless Township PA), Nancy Burns and Dorothy Burns both from the North Side in Pittsburgh, PA. He had two Nieces, Erica (Madia) Rupert of (Cranberry Twp. PA) and Allison Madia (Bossier City, LA) as well as two Nephews Brian Madia (Fairfield CT) and Keith Madia (LaVerkin UT). He Also has five great nephews and three great nieces whom he was very generous with at Christmas.
Visitation will be at the Thomas P. Kunsak Funeral Home, Inc. at 3552 California Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212 on Sunday, November 16th from 4 – 8 PM. He will be buried at Union Dale cemetery on Monday in a private ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the East Allegheny Community Council at 415 East Ohio St., Pittsburgh, PA 15212 in memory of Howard.
