Howard Marshall Hanshew, Sr., 84, of Frederick, MD passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Born on November 26, 1940, in Frederick, Maryland, Howard was the son of the late Floyd M. Hanshew and Carrie Ann (Kemp) Hanshew. Howard is lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 glorious years, Margaret Ann (Goad) Hanshew; his sons, Howard Hanshew Jr. (Gwenn); and William Hanshew (Vickie); grandchildren Garet Hanshew (Melinda Sue), Tyler Hanshew (Olivia), and Emily Beachley (Brice); great-grandchildren Peyton, Oliver, Owen, Addison, and Zoey, who knew him as an active and devoted "Pappy." His presence brought warmth, laughter and joy to those around him.
He is also survived by his sisters Jeanie Poole and Mary Lou Lease and brother Charles Hanshew and wife Joyce.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Floyd M Hanshew Jr, Michael L Hanshew; and sister Judy Ann Hanshew.
He built a life rooted in hard work and dedication, spending his career as a skilled mason. His craftsmanship left a lasting mark on the communities he served and stood as a testament to his commitment to quality and integrity. His stone work was a fusion of form and function that highlighted his precision, creativity, and deep understanding of stone, transforming raw materials into enduring masterpieces and intricate works of art.
A man of few words but deep loyalty, Howard lived with quiet dignity. His parting words - "Go on, I'm OK" - reflect the simple grace with which he approached life and farewells alike.
