Howard G. "Bus" Lovell, 96, of Houston, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, April 1, 2025 in Hawthorne Woods, with his family by his side. He was born July 26, 1928, in Gary, WV, a son of the late Jay and LueVennia Morrow Lovell. Mr. Lovell was a 1947 graduate of Chartiers High School where he excelled in basketball, baseball and football. Bus was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Canonsburg, where he served as a trustee and was a member of the Ever Ready Choir and the Celestial Choir. He was also a member of the Thompson Male Chorus Mr. Lovell enjoyed gardening, watching sports, washing his car and cutting the grass with his big sombrero. On September 17, 1950 he married Elizabeth Ann Thornton who died January 29, 1991. Surviving are five children, Deborah Vactor (Charles) of Winter Garden, FL, Howard G. Lovell II (Rev. Anita) of Washington, Terri Lynn Lovell and Teddi Lou Lovell both of Canonsburg and Gary J. Lovell of Philadelphia; six grandchildren, Aaron Vactor, Kiley Lovell, Jordan Vactor, Elizabeth Ann Crino, Jessica Lovell and Jason Izzi; seven great grandchildren, Micah Lovell, Malachi Bonner, Chloe Lovell, Ezra Johnson, Violet Vactor, Kahlilla Crino and Eden Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents and wife are three sisters, Elsie Jemmison, Queenette Demster and Leona Williams; five brothers, George, James, Johnny, Montgomery and David Lovell; two nephews that were raised as brothers, Leroy J. "PeeWee" Lovell and Lawrence Williams; and a special friend of 30 years, Jacqueline Umphrey. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342. Additional visitation will be from 10 to 11:00 a.m. the time of service, Saturday, April 5, 2025, in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 120 Greenside Ave., Canonsburg, PA 15317. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. The family would like to thank the staff of Gateway Hospice and Hawthorne Woods for excellent care they gave Bus.
