COVINGTON, LA - Howard Conrad Madden, 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
He was the devoted husband of 51 years to Susan Nunmaker Madden; loving father of Clay Madden (Emily), Lauren Parenton (Corey), and Logan Madden (Erica); proud grandfather of Charlotte, Louise and Robert “Bo” Madden; Jackson, James and Fay Parenton; and Chloe, Eleanor, Liam, and Austin Madden. He is also survived by sisters Brenda Funderburk of Oak Ridge, NC, Debra Megison of Dallas, TX, and Karen Masencup of Troutman, NC, along with a large extended family and many dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louie Jackson Madden Jr. and Patricia Cummings Madden, and his sister Jackelin Carol Madden.
Born in Shreveport, Louisiana on August 4, 1951, Conrad grew up in both Monroe, Louisiana and Asheville, North Carolina. He attended Louisiana State University, where he was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity and met the love of his life, Susan. Conrad earned his B.S Degree in Criminal Justice from Loyola University in New Orleans in 1974. In 1979, they moved to Mandeville, Louisiana to raise their family and joined St. Timothy’s Methodist Church.
A devoted servant of the Lord, Conrad lived his faith through service at St. Timothy’s as Head Usher and having previously served as the Director of St. Timothy’s Preschool, Sunday School teacher, and on various church committees. Though his warm smile will be missed on Sundays, his impact on the church will endure.
Conrad worked professionally as a licensed legal investigator for law firms across the greater New Orleans area, as well as for the St. Tammany District Attorney’s Office Child Support Division. In 1984, Conrad was chosen to serve on the Charter Commission for the City of Mandeville, where he helped rewrite the City’s Home Rule Charter. He was also a volunteer coach and selected as a charter member of the Pelican Park Recreation District #1 Board of Commissioners in 1989, helping open the park and served on the board for many years thereafter.
Conrad will be remembered as the consummate Southern gentleman. A gifted storyteller with a lively sense of humor, his legacy of faith, leadership, and civic duty lives on, especially through his children and grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at St. Timothy’s Methodist Church, 335 Asbury Dr, Mandeville, LA 70471, on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 11am. Visitation will begin at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Timothy’s to support its local ministries. Online gifts may be made at https://www.sttimothyns.org/give; please note “In memory of Conrad Madden.”
