Howard M. "Butch" Mantsch, 89, of Erie, passed away Thursday November 10, 2022 at Sarah Reed Senior Living. He was born in Erie on August 5, 1933 a son of the late Michael W. and Margaret A. Boettiger Mantsch.
Butch graduated from Academy High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for Ward Baking Company for 25 years and went on to work as a shipping clerk at Hammermill Paper Company for 15 years. He was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church and was an avid hunter and fisher.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice L. Johnson Mantsch, and his sister, Karen Hines.
Survivors include his daughter, Janis Inter (David) of Erie; two sons, James Mantsch (Cheryl) of Erie and Jeffrey Mantsch (Maggie) of Bradford; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Englert, of Erie and Marilyn Hannah (Alex) of North East; his Goddaughter, Tammy Steadman (Mike) of Erie; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to services there on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Erie County Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheiumer's Association, www.alz.org/pa
