Asheville – Howard Avery Rice, 76, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 25, 2022.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a wonderful caring man who loved all of his family unconditionally - spending time with all of his family every chance he could get.
Mr. Rice was the son of the late Charlie Jay Rice and Bernice Rice Moore. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Robert, Denny, Carol, Bobby and Vaughn Rice; sisters: Willie Mae Doan and Hazel Wadley; and three infant siblings.
He loved fixing things and could fix anything. He did so much for all of us and was always there when you needed him. He was a good listener, grew the best squash and tomatoes every year and was always happy to see you. What a great sense of humor he had, always making us laugh and he loved sitting outside watching the birds and animals that came into his yard and windmill. He will be very missed.
Howard is survived by his wife, Barbara Rice; daughters, Margie Gail Greene (Michael Gene Greene) and Amy Rebecca Sellers; grandchildren, Nicholas (John) Avery, Rebecca Ann, Amanda Gail and Andrew Howard, and sisters, Bee Robinson and Grace Honeycutt.
A private graveside service will be held at Longs Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to help the family with funeral expenses to: Anders-Rice Funeral Home, 1428 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC 28806.
Anders-Rice Funeral Home is honored to serve the Rice family.
