Howard "Speedy" Speegle, aged 73, passed from this life on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at his home in Shelbyville, TN. Born on April 11, 1951, in Lynchburg, TN, he was the son of the late Gordon Eric Speegle and Inez Elizabeth Campbell Speegle. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by three siblings, Doris Jewel, Dale Speegle, and Jimmy Speegle.
Speedy was a graduate of Moore County High School, class of 1969, where he earned the nickname "Speedy". He dedicated 16 years of his career to the Bedford County Utility District, where he worked in maintenance before retiring.
Howard was an avid supporter of the UT Vols, a passion he shared with his family and friends. His hobbies included playing softball, going hunting and fishing, spending time with family and friends, and his favorite pastime, playing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 ½ years, Shirley Moulder Speegle; children, Jeff Speegle of Winchester, Anthony (Nicole) Spence of Shelbyville, Jolynn Spence of Shelbyville, and Nathaniel (Paige) Speegle of Shelbyville. He was a proud grandfather of 15, and great grandfather of 5. He is also survived by siblings, Roy (Debbie) Speegle of Winchester, Lucky Speegle of Unionville, and Betty (Stanley) Burks of Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 2025, in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Pastor Eddie Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Mount Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held Sunday, prior to funeral services beginning at 12 p.m. at the funeral home.
