Howell C. Brown Sr.

Clyde, Howell Caldwell Brown, Sr., age 84, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at his residence. Born in Haywood County, he was the son of the late Glenn and Mary Torrence Brown and was also preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Brown. He was a US Air Force veteran and retired from Dayco in 1996. Howell's life can be summed up in three single words, "Happy Hollow Farms." He worked with his cattle tirelessly his entire life. At Happy Hollow, he proudly escorted his most prized possession, his grandson Howell Brown III, throughout the garden and property. Howell's most precious moments in life were with his grandson and family. Howell was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Howell is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sarah Vance Brown; a devoted son, Howell Brown, Jr. and his fianceé, Katherine Ledford, of Clyde; a sister, Doris McKinnish, also of Clyde and his precious grandson, Howell Brown, III; as well as several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Stacy Woods officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the US Air Force honor guard. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sam's Wish Fund and Kids Path of Hospice, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27217.
