Hoyt Westley Short, 73, of Sylvester Georgia, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, September 23, 2024 at Mathews Funeral Home at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow to Floral Memorial Gardens. Rev. Dudley Cook and Rev. Charlie Brown will officiate.
Born in Cedartown, Georgia to the late Paul C. and Evelyn Barber Short. He moved to Albany Georgia in 1959, and he graduated from Albany High School, Hoyt went on to have a long and fulfilling career, working for over twenty years at Piggly Wiggly, where he retired as their produce manager. Hoyt and Debroah married in June 11, 1973, having living in Warwick GA, before moving to Sylvester GA, eight years ago.
Hoyt was a man who cherished the simple joys of life. He had a passion for fishing, and his heart, belonged deeply to his family. He delighted in spending time with his grandchildren, A.J. Short, Hayden Short, and Mason Short and his love for Georgia Bulldogs football added an extra layer of joy to his life. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Paulette Duckworth, Donald Short, and James "Carl" Short, and Paul Short.
Hoyt is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Deborah Short of Sylvester, GA, along with their sons, Allen Short (Becky) of Mitchell County and Paul Short (Lora Beth) of Sylvester, GA. He was a proud grandfather to A.J. Short, Hayden Short, and Mason Short. His siblings, Jennie Whitlock (Charles) of Leesburg, GA, and Teresa Spencer (Steve) of Leesburg, GA. Additionally, he is remembered fondly by his special friend for many years, Derrell Henery.
The family will receive friends on Monday, September 23, 2024 at Mathews Funeral Home from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm.
