Hudson L. Matson, 90, of Venice, Florida and formerly of Sutton and Millbury passed away peacefully on October 10th after a short illness. 

Born in Worcester, Hud was the second son of Oran C. and Claire E. (Lynch) Matson. He was raised in Millbury and graduated from Millbury Memorial High School where he was a three-sport star. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in physical education from Springfield College and then a Master’s degree from Boston University. Hud taught physical education at Millbury Memorial High School until his retirement in 1995. He also served for many years as a varsity football and baseball coach. During his 15 years as head football coach his teams won three SWCL titles and two T & G Championships. Huddy was inducted into the Millbury High Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996. Hud is predeceased by his parents and wife Marjorie (Cullina).

Hud is survived by his long-time companion, Marina Latchis of Venice, Florida, a brother, Oran David Matson and his wife Jean, Sister-in-laws, Joan and husband Thomas Markey, Mary Lacoy and Carol Krumsiek as well as many nieces and nephews.

Huddy had a passion for hunting and fishing. He loved the outdoors and was happiest in his beloved Vermont and New Hampshire wilderness. In his retirement he turned to golf to satisfy his competitive nature and worked on his game until just the past few years. 

Family and friends are invited to remember Hud at a time of visitation on Thursday October 24th from 3 to 6 p.m. at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury. His funeral service and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Hud’s name to the charity of your choice.
