New Iberia – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm, on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, for Huey P. Romero, Sr., who passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Rev. Keith Landry will be the Celebrant.
Visitation will be at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, on Monday, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. A rosary will be prayed at 12:30 pm on Monday.
A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mr. Romero was born on January 14, 1933, to the late Felix and Olita Mazarole Romero. He retired from Ashland Chemical, after 36 years of service. As a devout Catholic, Mr. Romero was an active member at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, for over 68 years. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Atlanta Braves, and the New Orleans Saints. Huey also loved listening to country music, going on vacations, and most of all, spending time with his family. A kind and loving father, he will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his children, Sharon Latiolais, Katherine Robichaux (Morris), and Huey P. Romero, Jr.; grandchildren, Brooke Gros (Kevin), Brittany Darbonne (Derrick), and Blake Latiolais (Courtney); great grandchildren, McKenzie Darbonne, Kortlyn Darbonne, Kohen Darbonne, Brody Gros, Knox Gros, Tate Gros, and Dax Gros; brother, Gilbert Romero (Evelyn); sisters, Eunice Pellerin (Johnny), Clara Suire, and Margaret Guidry (Wilton).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mabel Louviere Romer; a son, Rickey James Romero; brother, Larry Romero, Sr.; sisters, Flo Boutte, and Gloria Rider.
Pallbearers include Huey Romero, Jr., Blake Latiolais, Morris Robichaux, Dana Latiolais, Kevin Gros, and Derrick Darbonne.
The family would like to give special thanks to Laura Thibodeaux, Seth Porche, Macy Walker, and Hospice of Acadiana for their care and compassion.
