Hugh Francis Burns, 74, of Marysville, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, February 12, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
One of three children, Hugh was born December 30, 1949, in Dunlap, Iowa, to the late Harold L. and Mary Lee (Hayes) Burns. A graduate of Northville High School in Michigan, he became ALL about the Michigan football program, and was the biggest Michigan football fan you would ever see. Not too long after graduation, Hugh walked into an Arby's restaurant one day and saw the most beautiful woman – a young lady by the name of Kimberly Shaw. He walked right up to her and kissed her before any words were spoken, and they were married on July 14, 1973. They were blessed with 50 years of love, family, friendship, and laughter together. While he held many jobs throughout the years, he most recently worked as a greeter at the COSTCO Store #1243 in Plain City, where he made many wonderful friends who became family to him.
Hugh had a great sense of humor, and was very kindhearted and loyal to all the loved ones in his life. While he could be stubborn, he was an excellent, steadfast listener, and was always willing to help anyone in need. He loved animals, especially his dog Lucy and cat Baby, and he enjoyed spending his free time golfing. A dedicated husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa, he was incredibly proud of his family, and he would bend over backwards to never let them go without. He simply loved each and every one of them to his fullest.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 50 years, Kim; their loving children Kimberly Thornborrow, Harold (Julie) Burns, Jennifer (Chris) Bell, James (Michelle) Burns, Michael (Jennifer) Lennon, Patrick (Theresa) Burns; much loved grandchildren Erica & Tristan Thornborrow, Casey & Cameron Bell, Kaylyn, Michael, Haley & JJ Burns, Sean & Ryan Burns, Alyssa & Trevor Lennon, and Braden Burns; adored granddaughter Eliana; brother Jerry Burns; nephews and niece Sean Burns, Lee Simms and Tina Simms; and his wonderful COSTCO family.
Along with his parents, Hugh was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Burns, and grandchildren Cierra and Jordan Bell.
Calling hours will be 3-8 pm Friday, February 16, 2024, at the Ingram Funeral Home, 975 N. Maple St., Marysville. Graveside services to celebrate Hugh's life will be held 10 am Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Oak Dale Cemetery, 319 Patrick Ave., Urbana, with Mark Miller officiating.
In Hugh's memory, contributions may be made to Ohio's Hospice Loving Care, 779 London Ave., Marysville, or in care of the funeral home, where contribution cards will be available during calling hours.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Ohio's Hospice Loving Care, each who were wonderful in their care of Hugh during his final days.
Ingram Funeral Home is honored to serve Hugh's family, and condolences may be expressed to them at www.IngramFuneralService.com.
