Hugh McCreary Davidson III, born on August 17, 1974, in Chicago, IL, left us on September 17, 2024, surrounded by loved ones at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
Hugh is survived by his father, Hugh Davidson Jr.; his sister, Anne Moran (Tom), of South Bend, IN; his nephews, Jeffrey Xaver II (Alyssa) of Williamsburg, MI and Sam Moran of Carmel, IN; his great-niece, Ada Xaver; and his girlfriend, Elizabeth "Lizzy" Maradik.
Hugh was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth (Scalzitti) Davidson.
Hugh worked in the trades throughout his life and early on found a talent for finish carpentry. He developed great skill and an eye for detail. His friends and members of the local homebuilding community knew him as a great carpenter who did quality work. Hugh learned many aspects of construction, putting the knowledge to use when building his own home. He was proud of his work and abilities.
Outside of work he loved to cook on his charcoal grill. Experimenting with seasonings and sauces and sharing the meal with others. Hugh enjoyed sports – playing in his younger years and as a fan later in life. He appreciated baseball but loved basketball. When the NCAA tournament started, he was guaranteed to be watching a game - analyzing strategies, coaching players, and making calls from his chair.
But Hugh's true passion was for his loved ones – family, friends, and his girlfriend. Hugh was a great friend with a big heart that would do anything for those he cared for. Hugh had a personality that made him easy to like. Being friendly, kind, funny, and sometimes a bit mischievous, made him a unique (or "Hugh-nique") guy that people gravitated towards. He loved laughter. His laugh was genuine and infectious and could fill the room. Hugh's sense of humor and easy-going nature are just part of the reason he has a large circle of people that love and care for him and call him a friend.
Hugh created a second family as a long-time member of the South Bend Maennerchor Club. The club brought joy and many people into his life, including his girlfriend of nine years, Lizzy. Hugh and Lizzy loved each other deeply. It was clear to those that knew them that they just got each other and enjoyed being around one another. It was truly something very special.
Hugh will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. One could only guess how many people will miss the joy of having Hugh in their lives due to his life being cut short.
A memorial visitation will be held from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. with a brief memorial service from 2:30 p.m. ~ 3 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Palmer Funeral Homes ~ Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN 46635.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date at the South Bend Maennerchor Club.
Memorial contributions may be made to South Bend Maennerchor Club, 1606 W. Western Ave., South Bend, IN 46619.
