Hugh Michael Edgar

Mike Edgar (Hugh Michael Edgar), 72, a Meredith NH resident, died on October 20, 2025, from complications following a stroke.

His parents, Hugh and Marilyn Edgar of Charlestown NH and N Yarmouth ME, pre-deceased him, as did his wife of 42 years, Heidi Swartzwelder Edgar, also of Meredith. He is survived by his sisters, Sheryl Jameson (Scott), Brunswick ME, and Susan Haubrich (Mark), Putney VT.

He has two children: his stepdaughter (Heidi’s daughter), Whitney Edgar Blethen, who lives with her husband, Brandon, and their young family in Kittery ME, and, from his first marriage to Jill Mayer, their daughter, Ane Jens (Tommi Virtanen), living in Aztec NM.

Mike leaves a legacy of handsome masonry and stonework in the Lake Winnipesaukee area— work which he approached with his creative mind, robust strength and attention to detail and highest quality. He was a colorful raconteur and often caused raucous guffaws or crimson cheeks with his storytelling.

His close and caring friends will miss him and remember him for his generosity and his boundless love for his cats and dogs. He leaves behind his latest beloved dog, Goose, who has, thankfully, been adopted by a dear friend.
