Mike McCully died peacefully on March 1, 2025. He was 82 years old. Mike was born on October 8, 1942, in Sebree, Kentucky, where he was raised. He was the eldest son of three boys. He loved his Kentucky home where he was a "real-deal" cowboy and a "jock." Raised around farm life, Mike loved the land and his family. He played sports, including taking his small-town basketball team, the Sebree Red Devils, to the State Championship in 1960. Mike served in the Vietnam War from 1966-1968. After that, he began his career with Sherwin Williams which lasted 40 years. He raised his family in Columbus, Indiana, and acquired many friends there. He was a member of First Christian Church and until very recently volunteered with his wife Judy at the Love Chapple every Wednesday. As an avid golfer, Otter Creek Golf Course was his second home. Not many people have ever made a hole-in-one in their lifetimes, but Mike made twelve; each documented on a one-dollar bill with the signatures of his buddies playing with him that day. It's an impressive collection. He also played softball with the over-60 traveling team. His favorite position was shortstop.
Mike was a devoted father and friend to many. He will be greatly missed. Mike is preceded in death by his father and mother, Bill and Mona McCully, and his daughter, Kim McCully. He is survived by his wife, Judy McCully, and family: Cheryl and (Matt) Jenkins and Julie and (Barry) Smiley and their children Alex and Sam, and two great-grandchildren; his daughter Kathy and (Dana) Noteboom, and grandson Carver; his brothers Dennis and (Pam) McCully and Mark and (Ruth) McCully, including their children. He will be missed by his special friends, Paula and Gary Ruddell, and by his golf buddies who will hold his tee time.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 2:00 p.m. He will be inurned at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery at a later date.
Those wishing may make memorial donations through the funeral home to the American Cancer Society.
