Hughes E Wright, born in Whitehavn, MD, he was the son of the Late Wilmer James Wright and Hilda Hughes Wright. As a young boy growing up in Whitehaven, he was educated alongside other relatives and long-time friends at the former one room schoolhouse on Capitola Road. Thereafter, his high school years were spend at Salisbury High School. After graduation in 1961, he worked for several trucking companies. For fifty-seven years (57) Hughes was married to Susie Ann Gale Wright. From that union they were blessed with four sons. Hughes, Mark, Steven and Vincent. He became a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Whitehaven MD in 2004. Hughes was the first of several black men on Maryland's eastern shore to be hired by the United Parcel Service (UPS) where he was a dedicated employee, winning numerous awards and named "number one driver" on the eastern shore. He retired from UPS after more than thirty (30) years of service. Hughes' hands were never idle, he had an eye for carpentry, in addition to building his own garage and "man cave", he also built decks for family, friends and neighbors. He was always willing to help his community and he maintained the Whitehaven Cemetery for a number of years, Hughes had a lot of drive and determination, he was proud of his home and enjoyed mowing and landscaping his lawn. Spending time with family and friends, fishing, playing cards, listening to "dowop" music and finding memorabilia for his "man cave" were favorite pastimes. He was a devoted father and grandfather, the apple of his mother's eye, and a great brother. Hughes will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his wife, Susie Ann Gale Wright, three Sisters Marian Lee Wright Edwards, Kay Frances Wright Hargrave and Gloria Wright Proctor.
