Hulleta Carey Obituary Hulleta May Carey, of Leesburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the age of 94, and entered the joy of her Lord in heaven.
Hulleta was born on October 26, 1930, in Larwill, Indiana, to Ada May (Wallace) Jackson and Ralph Dale Jackson. She graduated from high school in Columbia City, and on July 17, 1948, she married Larry D. Carey-whom she fondly recalled first meeting in the church sandbox when she was just three years old. They were blessed with nearly 70 years of marriage before Larry's passing on February 11, 2018.
Encouraged by a close circle of friends, Hulleta pursued a career in teaching. While raising four young children, she attended Grace College and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in education. She went on to earn her Master of Education degree from St. Francis College. Hulleta devoted 29 years to teaching sixth grade at Lincoln Elementary School in Warsaw, where she was beloved by students and colleagues alike.
A long-time member of Pathway Church in Warsaw, Hulleta's love for the Lord was the foundation of her life. She found great fulfillment in volunteer hospice work and was always ready to lend a helping hand-whether by preparing meals for families, bringing homemade soup to the sick, or creating countless baby blankets to give away with love.
Hulleta was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her son, Tim (Deb) Carey of Montrose, Colorado; her three daughters, Lara (Rod) Rockefeller of Warsaw, Indiana, Cathy Metzger of Warsaw, Indiana, and Judy (Tom) Van Meter of Leesburg, Indiana; her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her brother, Tom (Marilyn) Jackson of Marlette, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, two sisters, and several grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana. A celebration of Hulleta's life will follow at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Jarod Osborne. A private family graveside service will take place at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw. Arrangements are entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home.
