I’Nell Walls Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory on Mar. 26, 2026.
I'Nell Jane Walls, 86, a longtime resident of Mooresville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on March 26, 2026. She was born on October 23, 1939, in Mooresville, to the late Lawrence and Anna (Smith) Park.

I'Nell graduated from Mooresville High School in 1957 and married her high school sweetheart, John James Walls, on August 22 of that same year. She later earned her associate degree in accounting, but devoted the majority of her life to being a loving homemaker. Caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was her greatest joy, and she made family her top priority.

She was a devoted caregiver, known for her kindness, patience, and warm spirit. I'Nell especially loved attending her great-grandchildren's ball games and cheering them on. She was talented with her hands and enjoyed sewing, quilting, and especially crocheting. She also had a deep love for animals, particularly her beloved dog, Bella, and took great pleasure in tending to her chickens.

I'Nell had a sweet tooth and enjoyed treats like Oreos, Nutella, and Pop-Tarts. She was rarely without her favorite "Black Death" coffee and a Diet Coke. She will be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humor, friendliness, and unwavering love for her family.

Survivors include her children, John J. Walls, Jr. (Dolly) of North Dakota, Jane Coverstone (Tim) of Florida, Richard Walls of Cloverdale, Brian Walls (Julia) of Mooresville, and Amanda Gonzalez (Luis) of Mooresville; grandchildren, Derrick Walls, Brenda Stockton, Drew Coverstone (Whitney), Ryan Coverstone, Michael Walls, Kara Walls (James Hempel), Brian Keith Walls, and Christi Mentzell (Greg); great-grandchildren, Luis James Gonzalez (Kacy Swoboda), Cruz Gonzalez, Malyssa Walls, Alexa Walls, Gemma Stockton, Carson Coverstone, and Morrighan Warburton.

In addition to her parents, I'Nell was preceded in death by her husband, John James Walls; brother, Jack Park; and sister, Teresa Smith.

In honoring I'Nell's wishes, her earthly remains will be cremated.
