Ida Barrera Diaz, 82 years of age, entered into eternal rest on Monday June 3, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born in San Diego, Texas on November 11, 1941, to her parents Jose Maria Barrera and Alicia Flores. She was a 1960 Salutatorian of San Diego High School – Played in the band, was a vocalist, and a cheerleader. She attended Del Mar College and was employed by the Texas Rehabilitation Commission and retired after 32 years. She opened an Alteration and Gift Shop – Marcelas Heritage. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and embroidery. She loved ranch life and built her dream home to be enjoyed by her husband and family members. she was a Catholic Daughter at St. Francis de Paula Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years of marriage, Roel S. Diaz; her parents, Jose Maria Barrera and Alicia Flores.
Ida is survived by her two sons, Roel Diaz Jr. and Mario Luis Diaz and (Jackie), both of San Diego, Texas; three grand daughters raised as daughters, Desi Rae Diaz, Jessica Demi Ramos; Danika A'lee Diaz; two sisters, Yolanda Diaz, Gloria Vela; brother, Jose Maria Barrera-Chemita; five grandchildren; several great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024, at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church in San Diego, Texas. Interment will follow at Ranchito Arroyo Cemetery in San Diego, Texas.
