Littleton, Massachusetts - Ina Claire “Candy” Anderson, 90, of Shrewsbury, and former long-time Littleton resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. She was the wife of the late Alan Anderson, who died in 2018.

Ina Claire Hyman was born in Asbury Park, NJ, on September 4, 1933, a daughter to the late Isaac and Emma (Sepsenwol) Hyman. She graduated from Asbury Park High School in 1951 and obtained her Associate of Arts degree from Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ, followed by her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Psychology and a minor in Sociology from Upsala College in East Orange, NJ

It was in Monmouth, NJ, where she met the love of her life, Alan Anderson. The couple were married in Deal, NJ in 1956 and enjoyed over 62 wonderful years of marriage. They spent much of their years raising their family in Littleton, MA.

Candy was a long-time and active member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Littleton and in Northborough. She attended weekly service and participated in the Women’s Alliance group in Littleton. She worked for many years as a writer and newspaper reporter for a local newspaper in Ayer. In addition, Candy worked for the Town of Bedford as an administrative assistant to the planning board.  Candy also continued her writing by reporting school/education information to residents. In her early years, Candy loved to cook. She created “Candy’s Cooking Corner, " published weekly in the Littleton Independent.  Candy also was working on a cookbook, complete with recipes for many to enjoy.

During her spare time and retirement, Candy enjoyed beading, gardening, cooking, and continual involvement with the Red Hat Society in Boxborough.

After retirement, in 2005, Candy and her husband Alan moved to Southgate at Shrewsbury, where they enjoyed many happy years making new friends and being active with all sorts of clubs and activities.  After Alan’s passing, Candy moved to the assisted living wing, where she enjoyed daily activities assisted by loving caregivers, family, and friends.

Above all her personal accomplishments, family was the center of Candy’s life. She is survived by her loving daughters, Sharon F. Ellis and her husband Reid Sr. of Harwich, Susan B. Frankfort, and her husband, Peter of Danvers. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Emalee E. Colvin of Ruston, LA; Reid Ellis, Jr. of Harwich; Michael S. Frankfort and his wife, Michelle of Acton; her sister-in-law Brenda Hyman; many nieces, nephews, and her “Golden Girls.”

She was predeceased by her brother I Marshall Hyman, and her granddaughter’s husband, Weston.
