Inge Ferda

Inge was born in Germany on May 9, 1937. In 1957 she met her husband Steve Ferda Sr. while stationed with the Army in Germany. They returned to the US where they had three sons; Steve, Mike, and Mark. They traveled the world with the Army from Okinawa (twice), Germany, and many places in between. Inge was a fantastic Army wife and mother, handling three sons born in four years, often by herself as her husband was in Vietnam, Taiwan, Korea, and many temporary TDY assignments. After moving every 1-2 years, Steve Sr. retired at WSMR, moving to Las Cruces in 1973. Inge was a dedicated homemaker and later a ceaseless caregiver for her husband with dementia for 14 years, and another five years in a facility. She visited Steve twice daily, making the rounds to ensure patients' needs were met. It took a terrible toll on her health, starting 22 years ago Inge underwent many surgeries and hospitalizations. She always concerned herself with how others were doing, reminding us others were worse off than her. Inge was a very compassionate, merciful, and generous person touching many hearts. She endured much suffering with fortitude, grace, and humility. She loved animals, taking in strays and rescues. Inge volunteered at the Humane Society, dentist's office, and spoke at Alzheimer's meetings.
She is survived by three sons Steve (Beth), Mike (Barbara), and Mark (Michelle), six grandchildren Jake, Luke, Madison, Olivia, Nicole, and Jackson; and 4 great-grandchildren.
She passed peacefully on Feb. 6, 2025 after a long health decline fighting to the end with grit and grace. We thank Comfort Keepers (Alaina), several Las Cruces Rehabs, Dr. Attiogbe and other doctors, Mesilla Valley Hospice, and her ever helpful neighbor Louis Villareal. We will miss her love, class, and grace.
A service will take place February 19th with a viewing starting at 9:30am Rosary at 10:00 am with a Mass to follow at 10:30 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church 1240 South Espina St. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Cemetary at 12:00 pm. May the Perpetual Light shine upon Inge with the heavenly love she so deserves.
