Ingeborg (Jatzke) Fauser
Ingeborg (Jatzke) Fauser, age 97, of
Oro Valley, AZ, our beloved Mom, Oma and Oma Great, formerly of Peoria, Arlington Heights, and Chicago, IL passed into the arms of Jesus on November 1, 2024 surrounded by her loving daughters.
Inge was born on December 18, 1926 in Potsdam, Germany to Johannes and Margarete (Besch) Jatzke.
She met Fritz Fauser in May of 1945 a few days after WWII ended in Europe. They met in Czechoslovakia where she and her family had fled with a group of 1500 refugees after their home had been bombed out in Berlin. She was 18 and he was a 17 yr old German soldier. They corresponded via snail mail for 5 years while she obtained her nursing certificate and worked in an orphanage in the Eastern zone of Germany. They were married on April 21, 1951 in Fritz's hometown of Bondorf, Germany and were blessed to celebrate 71 years of marriage until he passed away on August 14, 2022.
Fritz and Inge emigrated to the United States aboard the Queen Mary and arrived in New York harbor on January 20, 1952. From there they settled in Chicago where they were sponsored by Fritz's uncle who had a construction business there. In 1953 their first daughter Barbara was born and in 1954 their 2nd daughter Sigrid was born. Inge was a stay at home mom who gave her daughters the gift of a 2nd language by speaking only German in the home during their formative years. Twice, she and Fritz traveled around the United States and Canada in their RV for a year at a time. They enjoyed many years of polka and square dancing together. In 1990 they moved from Chicago to Peoria, IL to be closer to their grandsons and enjoyed attending their many sporting and school events. In 2000, Fritz and Inge retired to
Oro Valley, Arizona where they enjoyed hiking in the desert and the beautiful mountains of nearby Catalina State Park well into their 90's. She and Fritz enjoyed polka and square dancing and Inge also enjoyed reading and playing card games. One of her greatest joys in her later years was being able to FaceTime daily with her family and keep them up to date on the weather forecast for the next 3 days for Arizona and the various places her family members lived. "It's just like being there" she would say.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Fritz on August 14, 2022 and her brother Hans JoAchim Jatzke in Germany (whom she talked to on the phone twice weekly) until he died in April, 2024 at the age of 96. Inge had a sweet, kind and gentle spirit, always thinking of and putting others before herself.
Surviving are her daughters, Barbara (Tony) Plattner of Hanna City, IL and Sigrid (Bob) Newman of
Oro Valley, AZ who thankfully for the past several years lived close enough to be able to check in on mom daily. Grandchildren, Jared (Amy) Plattner of Hanna City, IL, Blake (Becca) Plattner of Heath, TX, Brent Newman of Novi, MI, Rachel (Marty) Stephens of Flagstaff, AZ and Lisa (Ryan) Cornell of Scottsdale, Az. Also surviving are 9 Great Grandchildren, Ariya, Tess, Kali, Trey, Russ, and Jay of Hanna City, IL, Lenna and Livie of Heath, TX and Isla of Scottsdale, AZ. Also surviving is close family friend Sylvia Loeffler Bernardi who was like another daughter and her husband Frank of
Oro Valley, AZ who faithfully checked in on Inge and took her out for lunch every so often.
The wishes of both Fritz and Inge were that we not have any kind of formal memorial service for them. They had both donated their bodies to science and when we receive the cremated remains back we will at some point in the future with those of our family who are able to be present spread them by the wildflowers and the Saquaro cacti overlooking the mountains of Catalina State Park with those of our dad where they both loved to hike. We love you Mom, Oma, and Oma Great, and will always carry fond memories of you in our hearts.
The family would like to thank Casa del Luz Hospice of Tucson and especially Sharon, Kim, Jane, Chris, Keisha and Bernadette for the excellent care and support they gave our family for Inge's end of life care.
