Ingeburg Hamilton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium on Mar. 6, 2026.
Inge Hamilton, 96, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2026, leaving a void in the family that cannot be filled.

She was born January 26, 1930, in Frankfurt, Germany to Ernst and Doris Moeller.

She worked as a telephone operator and dental hygienist prior to marriage in 1956 and moving to the United States in 1959. As an Air Force spouse, she lived in several states before settling in Sumter, SC in 1971 with her husband and family. In 1980 she started the Oswego Rural Water Company to provide clean drinking water to the citizens of Oswego, SC. She worked at the company tirelessly until 2025, all the while caring for her grandchildren. She also worked as a secretary with the R.J. Kris Trucking Company from 1971 to 1997. She was an avid fan of the USC Gamecocks attended by her daughters. She loved her homeland Germany. She enjoyed working in her yard, cooking, enjoying the children in the pool, and attending church at St. John Methodist Church. She was active in the Iris Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star for decades, including ten years as the Most Worthy Matron. She was affectionately known as GG by her grandchildren, their families, and all their friends and children. She adored animals, especially dogs.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Roger J. Hamilton, Sr.; her daughter, Rita Hamilton Maddox; and her son, Steven E. Hamilton.

She is survived by her son, Roger Hamilton, Jr. (Bonnie); her daughter, Karen Hamilton; three grandchildren, Rita (Daniel), Norma (Shane), and Michelle (William); nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter and a great-great-grandchild on the way.

Funeral services will be held at 5 P.M. Wednesday, March 11, 2026, in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel officiated by the Rev. John McLeod.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 P.M. Wednesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sumter S.P.C.A., 1140 S. Guignard Dr., Sumter, SC 29150.
