Iqbal Singh Anand, age 78, of Edison, NJ passed away peacefully on Monday evening, March 31, 2025 surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born on February 13, 1947 in Delhi, India, the son of the late Ujagar Singh Anand and Pritam Kaur Anand.
Mr. Anand is survived by his wife, Parminder, two daughters and son-in-laws, Harleen & Raman and Ravleen & Harsh, and one son and daughter-in-law, Ravdeep & Jasmeet. He was also blessed with six adoring grandchildren: Ameek, Sahej, Vaani, Rai, Shaan and Zara.
Mr. Anand retired from a long career at New Jersey Transit, where he was lovingly called "Dr. Singh" by his colleagues and friends. He was a religious man, a follower of Sikhism who attended temple services regularly and instilled in his children his core values of faith, humility, perseverance, kindness and generosity. He enjoyed spending time with family, playing chess, doing sudoku and other puzzles, and being handy around the house.
He led an extraordinary life across multiple countries – born and raised in India, then young adulthood in Kuwait and then middle age and senior years in Edison, New Jersey. He is fondly remembered for his consistently positive outlook, a great (and sometimes mischievous) sense of humor, and his readiness to always help others. His positive mindset helped him overcome incredible challenges in life, including a traumatic car accident he suffered at age 70. Despite being told he may not walk again, he believed in himself and persevered to walk, drive and even return to work, retiring only at the end of 2023 at the age of 76.
Our father left an impression on everyone he encountered and the countless people that he helped. He will be forever loved, remembered, and honored in our hearts.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025 from 9am to 10:45am at CHUBENKO FUNERAL HOME, 625 Port Reading Avenue, Port Reading followed by cremation at Rosehill Crematory in Linden.
