Irene Lourcey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ferreira Funeral Services - Lake City on Dec. 17, 2024.
Lourcey – Irene Helen Lourcey, age 77, of Lake City, Florida passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center. Irene was born in Hersbruck, Germany on April 3, 1947, to the late John L. Lewis and Ursula Yvonne Feldmann Lewis. She traveled around the United States as a child as her father was in the military. After graduating from Ludwigsburg American High School in Ludwigsburg, Germany she moved back to the United States and started in the banking profession. She was passionate about helping others and thought a career as a Paramedic would fulfill her passion. Irene was furthering her education when she met her best friend and forever companion, Kenneth Jerome Lourcey. After one year, Kenneth and Irene were happily married on May 19, 1978. As newlyweds, they resided in Tampa until purchasing their land in Chiefland, Florida in 1980. Together they built their own company, Azelea Land Nursery and Garden Center. They started out selling plants and later had a store. Irene loved flowers and especially liked pansys, marigolds, and roses. In 1996, Kenneth and Irene made Lake City their home and have thoroughly enjoyed being part of our community. They were longtime members of Epiphany Catholic Church where they enjoyed praising and worshipping their Lord and Savior. For years they operated Food Services for our local Rest Areas with the Division of Blind Services. Irene loved her work and loved growing beautiful pieces for others to enjoy. More than anything, Irene enjoyed spending time with her family and cats. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Brett Bal; sisters, Cindy Lewis and Margie Lewis; and her cat, Pumpkin.
Irene is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Kenneth Jerome Lourcey of Lake City, FL; daughter, Yvette (Tip) Tyler of Lake City, FL; brother, Roger Lewis of Virginia; grandchildren, Drake Bal, Jocelin (Samuel) Niebhur, and Tinsley Tyler; and her cat, Stormy.
