Irene Monkowski

Irene Sklarzewski Monkowski, 96, formerly of Greene Township, passed away Sunday November 19, 2023. She was born in Erie on April 5, 1927 a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Mazurski Sklarzewski.
Irene originally worked for Erie Crate Company where she met her husband, Joseph. She went on to work as a waitress at the Home Restaurant, Howard Johnson, and the Holiday Inn. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening and bird watching.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph L. Monkowski, and six sisters, Anna Sklarzewski, Francis Sklarzewski, Genevieve Wojnakowski, Josephine Gorniak, Stella Gorniak, and Florence Allen.
Survivors include one daughter, Annette Nowosielski (Daniel) of Erie; two sons, Michael Monkowski (Carole) of New Windsor, NY and Joseph Monkowski (Janice) of Danville, CA; six grandchildren, Adam Monkowski, Annie Reynolds, Phil Monkowski, Will Monkowski, Krystal Nowosielski, and Tyler Nowosielski; five great grandchildren, Claire and Lucia Monkowski, Evelyn and Theo Reynolds, and Felix Monkowski; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to a Funeral Mass at St. Boniface Catholic Church on Saturday December 2nd at 10 a.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements were made by the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, 16504.
