Iris Janis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 8, 2024.
Iris Schilling Janis, born on March 4, 1935, to William and Bertha Schilling, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2024, at the age of 89 in Nashville, TN. Iris was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, known for her kindness, warmth, and huge heart.

Born and raised in Irvington, NJ, Iris always held a deep pride for her Jersey roots and was ready to tell everyone she met. She married her husband of 53 years, Raymond F Janis, in 1958 and together they raised three children - Bill, Debbie, and Raymond.

After dedicating many years to her family, she embarked on a successful career at JC Penny, where she ran the home department in Cleveland, TN, before retiring after 27 years.

Iris is survived by her son Bill, in Port Angeles, WA; her daughter Debbie Cook, in Nashville, TN; and her son Raymond and his partner Charlie, who live in Los Angeles, CA. While Iris would have loved countless grandchildren, she felt especially blessed for the one she did have - granddaughter, Kasey Cook, and Kasey's wife, Victoria.

A private service will be held to honor Iris's memory. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Center for Combating Elder Financial Abuse. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Dear Raymond,

I was deeply saddened to hear about the loss of your beloved mother, Iris. It was a privilege to meet her, albeit briefly, on a Zoom call, and to see the warmth and love you shared. I look forward to learning more about her life through the stories you share with me. Please accept my heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy to you and all who loved and knew Iris.

Love from your and her cousin MaryAnne and of course from David too. I am so happy we found each other through DNA.
