Iris Newman Obituary
A graduate of Mishawaka High School, Iris began her career as a data processor for IBM before becoming a dedicated stay-at-home mom once her children were born. In 1963, the family moved to Florida, where she co-owned and managed a hotel in Ft. Lauderdale. Iris had a passion for interior design, which she pursued through classes and shared with others. The family returned to Michiana in 1974, and ended settling down at Eagle Lake, where she spent summers with her children and grandchildren created lasting memories.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, having accepted Christ at an early age. As a devoted member of the Apostolic Temple in South Bend, she supported her church with her regular attendance and time, where she traveled to China to smuggle Bibles to local families. Iris's life was marked by her love for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with whom she cherished every moment. She will be greatly missed by all.
Surviving are her children, Denis (Rebecca) Egert and Karen (Roger) Cook, along with her grandchildren: Phillip (Lori) Egert, Tania (David) Lace, Josh Egert, Keyna (Daniel) Jankoviak, and Sheri (Matthew) Aurenz; 19 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, September 3, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a service at 1 p.m. at Cruz Family Funeral Home, Osceola. A private family burial will follow at Adamsville Cemetery, Edwardsburg.
