Iris (Kornfeld) Ostrom was born October 10th, 1931 in the Bronx, New York. She peacefully passed away January 18, 2025 in Manchester, Connecticut at the age of 93 years old. Iris is pre-deceased by her parents, Max Kornfeld and Jean (Goodman) Kornfeld of the Bronx, New York and her beloved husband, Jack Ostrom of Manchester, Connecticut. She is also predeceased by dear companion, Irving "Lucky" Luckman, whose company she enjoyed for ten years in later life. She is also predeceased by Jane Ostrom, daughter in law and the late wife of David Ostrom. Iris graduated from Taft High School in the Bronx. She and Jack met on a blind date and married soon after on March 10th, 1957. They were happily married for 37 years. The couple and family enjoyed many vacations in the Catskills with their friends and attended Shabbat dinner every Friday night at her sister in law's home in Brooklyn.
In 1964, Iris and Jack and their three sons moved to Manchester, CT. After moving to "the country", former city dweller Iris learned how to drive a car and passed her driver's license test with her exemplary parking skills. She was a lifetime member of Hadassah and was a 60-year member of Temple Beth Shalom, Manchester, Connecticut. Everybody loved Iris, her smile could light up a room. She was a busy homemaker, a school class parent and a den mother to the Cub Scouts. After Jack retired, she was employed by the Town of Manchester as an Assessor's Clerk. Upon her retirement, Iris received a proclamation from the Governor of Connecticut for her many years of service. Iris was also well known for her delicious cheesecake and baked macaroni and cheese. She was an avid Mah Jongg player amongst two groups of special, long term friends including Audrey Davis. Iris and Audrey enjoyed many Saturdays of movie matinees and dinners at 99 Restaurant.
Iris is survived by her beloved brother and sister-in-law Barry and Wendl Kornfeld, of Manhattan, New York. She is also survived by her three loving sons: Dr. Hal Ostrom (wife Kimberly Smith) of Old Saybrook, Connecticut and Edgecomb, Maine; Dr. David Ostrom (fiancé Ilene Wikler) of Glastonbury, Connecticut and Paul Ostrom (wife Shari) of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
