Irma F. (Gold) Carter
Irma F. (Gold) Carter, 87, of Vernon, wife to the late John J. Carter, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. She was born on August 11, 1938, in Everett, MA, daughter to Benjamin and Anna (Shuman) Gold.
Irma had many passions from her love of flowers to everything music. She had a penchant for singing which led her to becoming an active part of the Vernon Chorale for many years. She even once performed in Austria. Travel was an integral part of her life with many trips across the States. She loved art and frequented museums. One special place for her was the Vernon Arts Center East. She donated much of her time and talent to the center earning her Emerita status for her work within. She had an immense love for her grandkids and cherished her time with them. She loved sharing her passion for music and the arts with them, often taking them to shows and museums as well as keeping her home well stocked with everything creative. One of her proudest accomplishments was creating a new part of her life after raising kids. She went to college and eventually earned a master's degree from the University of Hartford. She also spent a lot of her working years with the hospitals in Rockville and Manchester. She very much enjoyed working in Human Resources at MMH.
Irma is survived by her son, Robert Carter and his wife Nancy of South Windsor; as well as her two grandchildren, Lindsay and John Carter, both of South Windsor. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, John J. Carter, Jr.; and her brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Norene Gold.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd. (Rt 83) in Vernon, with a service beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Beth Olam Cemetery, Edith Rd., South Windsor.
