Irma Monroy, age 80, peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025, in the comfort of her home in Lawrence, MA, surrounded by the presence of her devoted family.
Born in Mixco, Guatemala, Irma was the cherished daughter of the late Emilio Rivera and Christina Fuentes. From her earliest years, she embodied strength, compassion, and a deep-rooted faith that would guide her throughout her life. In 1964, she married her beloved husband, Rolando Monroy, with whom she shared an extraordinary sixty-one-year union marked by unwavering love, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to family and faith.
In 1970, Irma and Rolando courageously immigrated to the United States, settling in Lawrence, where they would raise their family and become pillars of their community. Irma's work ethic and dedication were evident in her many years of employment at Cardinal Shoes, and later at Lucent Technologies, where she worked for over two decades until her well-earned retirement.
Irma was a woman of remarkable warmth and generosity. Her home was a sanctuary of love, laughter, and delicious meals-always open to family, friends, and neighbors. She was known for her vibrant personality, her deep spiritual devotion, and her boundless love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her faith in the Lord was the cornerstone of her life, and she lived each day with grace, humility, and gratitude.
She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Lizzette Monroy, and her brother, Rolando Pernilla.
Irma is survived by her loving husband, Rolando Monroy of Lawrence; her children: Helbert Monroy and his wife Adela of Lawrence, Iliana Roman and her husband Jose of Lawrence, and Byron Monroy and his wife Claribel of Methuen. She also leaves behind her dear siblings: Ofelia Juarez, Emilio Pernilla, Neco Pernilla, Noelia Guerra, Conni Pineda, Gus Rivera, and Johanna Vigo.
Irma was the proud grandmother of Irene, Michelle, Sebastian, Limbano, Christian, Tiffany, Michael, Naythan, Nykole, Emilio, and Luis, and the joyful great-grandmother of Grace, Emanuel, Jaythian, Nickolas, Liam, Olivia, Kensie, Aiden, Isaac, Giannaliz, Armani, Jacob, Nixzaliz, Naliyah. Who brought her endless pride and happiness.
Her legacy is one of love, resilience, and faith. She will be remembered for her radiant smile, her nurturing spirit, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and generosity.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street,
Methuen, MA. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Bellevue Cemetery.
