Irving V. Gradel, 91, of Owego, NY passed away at home early Friday morning, September 22, 2023. He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years: Helen (Sokoloski) Gradel; his daughters and sons-in-law: Teresa and Allan Wallace, Susan and Peter Giliberti; his son: Frank Gradel and Jeanne Hillman; his grandchildren: Frances Wallace, Michelle and David O'Neill, Phil and Melissa Wallace, Stephen and Jessica Giliberti; his great grandchildren: Avery, Blake, Ren, Nathan; several nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Adolf and Bethli (Hirschi) Gradel; and his siblings, John Gradel, Gertrude Beebe, Ferdinand Gradel and Andrew Gradel.
Irving was born in Owego on May 28, 1932 and was a lifelong dairy farmer on the Gradel family farm. He also operated a saw mill at the farm for many years, and hauled milk cans for the local farmers to the processing plant before there were bulk tank routes. He was an excellent mechanic, an animal lover, and was father to many farm cats over the years. Irving was a kind and gentle man who was especially dedicated to his family and farm.
Family and friends are invited to visit at Richards Funeral Home, Rte. 17c West, Owego, NY on Tuesday September 26, 2023 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm. A funeral Service will begin at 7:00pm with Rev. Dale Ford officiating. Interment will be in Gaskill Corners Cemetery, Owego. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Lisa Houston, a special caregiver and friend of Irving.
