Irving Meyer Obituary

Irving F. Meyer, 86, a lifelong resident of North Attleboro, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro surrounded by his loving wife, children and grandchildren. He was the beloved husband of Rachel L. (Chaloux) Meyer, to whom he was wed on April 26, 1958.

Irving grew up in North Attleboro and graduated from North Attleboro High School in 1956. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Corporal E-4 before being honorably discharged on September 18, 1956.

A self-employed carpenter, Irving also served as a decorated member of the North Attleboro Fire Department from 1962 to 1993, achieving the rank of Captain in 1969. He was an avid golfer, playing at various courses over the years, and was a member of the Attleboro Area Golf Association for many years, winning the senior AAGA lowest net in 2001. Irving also enjoyed skiing, traveling to destinations like Colorado, Utah, New Hampshire, Vermont, and France. He loved taking day trips with his family to New Hampshire and spending time at the Cranmore Inn.

Irving was deeply involved in his community, coaching North Attleboro area Pop Warner football and Little League baseball for many years. He participated in North Attleboro Kids Day, was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, and, along with his friend Al Chabot, was instrumental in establishing "Old Timers Night" to connect new and old members of the North Attleboro Fire Department a tradition only unique to North Attleboro Fire Department.

His most cherished moments were those spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Pepe." He regularly attended all their activities and events.

In addition to his beloved wife of sixty-six years, Rachel, Irving is survived by his devoted children: Mitchell Meyer and his wife Kathleen of North Attleboro, Michelle Keene and her husband Benton of Attleboro, Jodie Murphy of North Attleboro, and Keith Meyer and his wife Kerri of Lowell. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Heather Hughes and her husband Adam of North Attleboro, Nicole Meyer of Attleboro, Kayla Meyer of North Attleboro, Traci Vaughn and her husband Michael of Mansfield, Tami Keene of New York, Lynsi Spasoto and her husband Jeffrey of Attleboro, Kelci Camara and her husband Joshua of Attleboro, Brenden Murphy of Cumberland, Blake Murphy and his wife Alyssa of Marstons Mills, Colby Murphy and his wife Hannah of Plymouth, Susan Vega Meyer and her husband Victor of Attleboro, Rachel Meyer and her fiancé Ryan Holski of Attleboro, Abby Meyer and her fiancé Pete Dalton of Pawtucket, Evan Meyer of Norton, Delaney Meyer of Arlington, and Shane Meyer of Lowell. Irving was also the proud great-grandfather of twenty-one great-grandchildren.

He was the dear brother of Louise Parker and her husband Steve of North Attleboro and leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Irving was predeceased by his sons Greg Meyer and Glenn Meyer, and his brother, George Meyer.

His funeral, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited, will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. Visitation will take place from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Reverend David A. Costa at 11:30 AM at Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church (Transfiguration of the Lord Parish), 14 Park Street, North Attleboro. I´m thinking of you Rachel. Rabbi was very special to Jeff and me. His memory lives on in our kitchen, which his hands solely created and which solidly stands 22 years later! God Bless you and your entire brood. My goodness your family has grown!! May you all find a bit of peace, somehow, in the sorrow.
