Isaac Lonnie Cox, affectionately known as Lonnie, passed away on July 19, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on January 11, 1942, in Kingsport, Tennessee, Lonnie was a remarkable man whose sharp wit, generosity, and compassion touched the lives of many. He dedicated his life to serving others and exhibited a loving spirit, particularly toward those in need.
Lonnie was deeply passionate about hospitality and found joy in opening his home to family and friends. His love for gatherings was most evident when his beloved wife, Mary, prepared for celebrations, infusing each event with warmth and love that brought people together.
A man of many interests, Lonnie had a keen passion for semi trucks and CB radios, showcasing his vast knowledge and expertise in firearms. He was a proud patriot who held a deep appreciation for history, particularly World War II. He idolized the veterans who served during that pivotal time in history, often reflecting on their sacrifices with profound respect. Lonnie also cherished quiet moments in nature, enjoyed hunting, and found delight in road trips with Mary, celebrating life’s adventures together.
With a family that was his pride and joy, Lonnie embraced every opportunity for family celebrations, filling them with love and laughter. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Cox, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage spanning 64 years. Together, they raised a loving family that includes their son Hannibal L. Cox, daughters Deborah Davenport and Deanna Graham, and a wonderful array of grandchildren: Jacob, Lucas, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Leslie, Erika, and Elena along with great-grandchildren Gabby, Emily, Emory and Jasmine.
Lonnie’s memory will also be cherished by those who knew him as a dedicated husband, father, son and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma Geneva Cox and Hannibal Cox, and siblings Arizona Harrell, Betty Jo Thomas, and BB Cox.
Lonnie's legacy of kindness, generosity, and love will continue to resonate through the lives he has touched. He will be remembered not only for his passions and interests but also for the warmth he brought into the hearts of those around him.
