Israel G. Costilla, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, was born on September 28, 1943, in Sinton, Texas. He passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, leaving behind a rich legacy of love and memories.
Israel is preceded in death by his parents, Federico Costilla and Jesusa G. Costilla; his sister, Manuela C. Lopez; his brother, Alfredo Costilla; and, most importantly, his baby girl, Mary Costilla.
He is survived by his sister, Estella Speir, his children, Eva Costilla, Israel (Marisa) Costilla, Maria (Lito) Gonzalez, Gabriela Valdez, Lucy Karides, John Gomez, Berdie (J.P. Ryan) Estrada, grandchildren, Xavier, Nathan, Desirae, Mark Anthony, Catalina, Christopher, Sabryna, Michael, Jessica, Courtney, Felix, Jordan, and Jazmine, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous family and friends who hold treasured memories of him.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Israel served his country with unwavering honor and integrity. Following his military career, he transitioned to a rewarding role at AT&T (formerly Southwestern Bell), where he dedicated over thirty impactful years, contributing his skills and expertise.
We will miss his storytelling as a grandfather (known as Grandpa stories), effortlessly bringing joy and laughter to his family, and filled with humor and wisdom, Israel created unforgettable moments that his family will treasure.
Amongst his favorite pastimes was dining at Bud Jones, a beloved spot where he relished the 3-piece fish plate surrounded by those closest to him, creating lasting memories over shared meals and heartfelt conversations.
Though Israel will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, his vibrant spirit and the cherished memories he created will forever resonate in the hearts of family and friends.
