J.B. Reese Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tom M. Wages Funeral Service - Lawrenceville on Jan. 3, 2026.
Rev. J.B. Reese, Jr., Pastor Emeritus, age 94 of Monroe, Georgia, formerly of Loganville, Georgia went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. He was the former Senior Pastor at Mt. Zion Baptist Church and Sunrise Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his devoted and loving wife of 68 years, Harriette Yancey Reese on Monday, September 26, 2022. Rev. Reese was born on December 28, 1931, in Lilburn, Georgia, the son of J.B. Reese, Sr. and Ollie Reese. He grew up in the Sweetwater area of Lawrenceville, moving to Grayson where he graduated from Grayson High School. Rev. Reese was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Korea. He married Mrs. Harriette on September 30, 1954, after he returned from the service. He was working at Georgia Power when he started serving as a Lay Pastor at Center Hill Baptist Church in Robertstown, GA (near Helen, GA). He served as Pastor for Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Snellville and left there in 1983 to serve as Pastor at Mars Hill Baptist Church in Watkinsville, GA. He then served as Senior Pastor at Sunrise Baptist Church then to Mount View Baptist Church in Stone Mountain. He returned to Sunrise and served as a faithful member and supporter of the seating Pastor. When Mrs. Harriette's health declined, Rev. Reese took care of her faithful for seven years until her death in 2022. He was heartbroken and grieved for his devoted wife every day. He worked for Maxie Price, first as a driver, and became a faithful worker who would open the business in the morning making sure everything was ready when the staff arrived in the morning. He loved to garden, worked on lawn mowers, and would even set traps to catch "minks" and sale their skins to Sears, Roebuck Co. and shipped them to Arkansas. He loved serving people and was a Godly man. He has gone home now to be with Mrs. Harriette and receive all the blessings of his Heavenly Father that he served so faithfully for 50 years. Rest well good and faithful servant. Rev. Reese is survived by his three children; daughter & son-in-law, Mary Lynn Couch and her husband Mike of Dillard, GA, son, Wayne Reese of Loganville, GA, daughter & son-in-law, Cindy Reese Sapp and her husband Clint of Monroe, GA; five grandchildren, Mr. & Mrs. Walker Sapp (Jamie) of Loganville, GA, Mr. & Mrs. Clayton Sapp (Kayla) of Madison, GA, Mr. & Mrs. Josh Moody (Laura Beth) of Gray, GA, Ben Reese of Loganville, GA and Mr. & Mrs. Brett Reese (Kristy) of Loganville, GA; seven great grandchildren, brother-in-law, Ronny Yancey (Becky) of Georgia; numerous other relatives and a host of many friends during his lifetime.
