On Thursday, March 30, 2023, at 7:45 a.m., the sweetest soul was welcomed into the arms of Jesus. Jean "Daphine" Liley, 94, of Jackson, passed away at the Monticello House in Jackson, Missouri.
Daphine was born on April 10, 1928, to Russell Marvin and Ora Lea Smith Kirkpatrick in Grassy, Missouri. As a child, she attended Pound School and Grassy School, and graduated from Lutesville High School in 1945. She received her teaching certificate from the Southeast Missouri State Teachers College in Cape Girardeau and taught school at Buchanan School and Grassy School.
Daphine and Lyndall Liley were united in marriage on July 13, 1947, by the Reverend Dale Porter at the home of Daphine's mother in Grassy. Upon moving to Jackson in 1953, Daphine worked at the shoe factory briefly before becoming a stay-at-home mom to her children. In 1968, when all of her children were in school, she began working in the school cafeteria at the Primary Annex, and later, West Lane Elementary in Jackson, retiring in May of 1990.
Daphine was a member of Crossroads Fellowship Church, and previously a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson, and Grassy Friendship General Baptist Church in Grassy.
Loving survivors include her devoted husband of 75 years, Lyndall Liley; a son, Rodney (Karen) Liley of Evansville, Indiana; a daughter, Lisa (Steve) Hanschen of Jackson; a daughter-in-law, Laura Liley, of Grassy; and a son-in-law, Brent Eastman, of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren, Jason (Katy) Liley, Alisha (Nathan) Turley, Michelle Liley, Katie (Reid) Schultheis, Cameron (Hannah) Liley, Danielle Nussbaum, Caitlin (Brent) Newsome, Madison (Scottie) Thomas, and Graeme Moore; step-grandchildren, Wesley (Holly) Borgfield, Wendy Wilson, and Clint (Ashlei) Eastman; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Dean (Shirley) Kirkpatrick and David (Janet) Kirkpatrick; sister-in-law, Ora Mae Kirkpatrick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Dane Liley; daughter, Sandra Jean Eastman; brothers, Jerry Kirkpatrick, and James R Kirkpatrick; and sister, Betty J Lindsay.
The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the nurses and staff at Monticello House for the exceptional and compassionate way in which they cared for Daphine during the two months she was a resident there.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 4, 2023, from 10AM - Noon at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Noon at the funeral home, with the Dr. Brian Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to Crossroads Fellowship.
