J.R. Whitt, 43, of Mabank, TX passed away on August 10, 2023. J.R. was born on August 22, 1979, to Cecil and Lisa (Camarillo) Yaw in Dallas, TX.
J.R. lived a life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. He was a man of many passions and interests, including a deep love for fishing and going to the beach. J.R. had a special fondness for feeding seagulls, his connection with nature extended far beyond the realm of fishing. Food held a special place in J.R.'s heart as well, whether it was a backyard barbecue or a hearty family dinner, his appreciation for good food was obvious.
Family meant everything to J.R., and he treasured their presence in his life above all else. His unconditional love knew no bounds, and he took great pleasure in showering his family with affection and care. An intuitive mind paired with a goofy personality made J.R. an unforgettable presence in any room. Always ready to lend a helping hand, he selflessly extended himself to anyone in need, stranger or friend. His magnetic personality and boundless generosity left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to cross his path.
J.R.'s impact went beyond his immediate circle; he was widely known throughout the community for his warm heart and welcoming nature. He had a genuine knack for forging connections with people from all walks of life. No matter the circumstance or the unfamiliar face before him, J.R. had a way of making others feel seen, heard, and valued. He had a heart that was larger than life itself—a true embodiment of a big-hearted teddy bear.
J.R. is preceded in death by his father, Cecil Yaw; stepdad, Gordy Rohrbacker; grandparents, James and Pam Whitt; and his uncle and aunt, Michael and Kim Fennell.
J.R. is survived by his mom, Lisa Rohrbacker of Athens, TX; son, Coby Gagan of Yantis, TX; son, Bryson Whitt of Mabank, TX; daughter, Sarah Smith of Eustace, TX; sister, Desiree Castillo and husband Joe of Eustace, TX; stepsister, Katrina Horner and husband Michael of Log Cabin, TX; stepbrother, Trey Rohrbacker and wife Brook of Malakoff, TX; stepsister, Candice Rohrbacker and husband Tony of Eustace, TX; niece, Sierra Castillo of Eustace, TX; nephew, Tristian Castillo of Eustace, TX; nephew, Gage Castillo of Eustace, TX; aunt, Johnnie Crowson of Campbell, TX; aunt, Tami Howard of Mabank, TX; girlfriend, Destiny Young of Mabank, TX; lifelong best friend, Christopher Starkes of Antlers, OK; lifelong best friend Joseph Barnes and wife Tisha of Kaufman, TX; life long best friend Layne Thompson and multiple step nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
