J B Shepherd

Funeral services for J B Shepherd will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Alva First United Methodist Church with Rev. Taylor Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Waynoka Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Waynoka. There will be a visitation with family present on Friday, March 20, from 6-8:00 p.m. at Marshall Funeral Home in Alva.

J B, son of William George and Mabel Frances Shepherd, was born November 23, 1931, at Ames, Oklahoma and passed away peacefully surrounded by family March 7, 2026, at Alva at the age of 94 years, 3 months, and 12 days.

J B graduated high school in Ames and later attended Northwestern Oklahoma University receiving his bachelor's degree in Education. On March 23, 1952, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Faye Hull. To this union three children were born: Ray, Kathy, and Philip.

He began his teaching career in Attica Kansas, and later taught in Lakin Kansas. He went back to school and earned his master's degree at Northwestern Oklahoma University and became a principal at Garden City, Kansas. When his in-laws passed, he moved back to Waynoka where he began farming/ranching on the Jess Hull family land.

J B was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Waynoka for many years. He was a committed Christian man who often shared his strong belief that nothing in this world was more important than accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and living for Him. He was a member of the Optimist Club while living in Garden City and also the State Beekeepers Association in Oklahoma, serving as president. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, beekeeping and woodworking, but most of his time went into farming/ranching. He prized his family and many friends and was happy when he could spend time with them.

Besides his parents, Bill and Mabel, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy; his son, Philip Shepherd; a granddaughter, Rebecca Simon; and his sisters, Juanita Rider and Dorothy Kilmer.

He is survived by his son, Ray Shepherd and wife, Mae Ann, of Jenks; his daughter, Kathy Simon and husband, Tim, of Jenks; his sister, Sharon Shepherd of Enid; his grandchildren, Stephen Shepherd and wife, Chanhui, Jeffrey Shepherd and wife, Liz, Deborah Perdue and husband, Nathan, Sarah Whipple and husband, Jay, Daniel Simon, Matthew Simon, and Emmalee Koller and husband, Jack; great grandchildren, Mikiah, Tilmon, and Evelyn Perdue, James Braden Shepherd, and Kathrine and Robert Whipple; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Alva First United Methodist Church.
