J. Carlean Shomper, 95, of Dauphin, passed away on Saturday June 21, 2025, at Capitol Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center.
Born on June 28, 1929, in Wilberton, Northumberland County, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Violet (Wolfgang) Gissel.
A skilled seamstress, who took pride in her work, Carlean had been employed at the former Blough-Wagner Dress Co. for many years. She later worked at the GR Kinney Shoe Co. until the time of her retirement. Carlean was an avid crocheter, and her hands lovingly crafted over 100 Afghans, which she gifted to family, friends, and neighbors. She also took pleasure in painting wood carvings that her late husband, Jack, made for her as well as working in her flower garden. Carlean was a former member and Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Carlean is survived by her children, John "Randy" (Eileen) Stone of Harrisburg, Violet (Harold) Korbich of Paxinos, Northumberland County, Cindy (Mark) Burkholder of Dillsburg, and Lynn Gordon of Dauphin; six grandchildren, Randy and Michael Stone, Mark Burkholder, Michael Korbich, and, Matthew and Josh Gordon; six great grandchildren and a great-great grandson. She is also survived by a brother, David Gissel of Milford, CT; stepson, David Shomper; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Carlean was preceded in death by her husbands, Arthur H. "Jack" Shomper and John R. Stone, Sr.; an infant daughter, Judith Stone; her grandson, Carl Korbich; and her siblings, Eleanor Brittingham, Jane Stone, Virginia O'Connor, and Carl Gissel.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday June 28, 2025 at the Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, followed by her funeral service at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Dr. Keith A. Blank, officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax.
