LYKENS - John A. Shomper Sr., age 79, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at UPMC, Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg.
He was born on March 19, 1946 the son of (the late) Joseph Shomper and Mary (Davis) Shomper.
John was a retired contractor, that enjoyed taking care of his lawn and all the landscaping around their home, cooking and baking for his family especially around the holidays, and taking weekly trips shopping with his wife. He was a family man, if you needed him, he was there. He loved his grandchildren and great grand-babies (as he would have called them). John was loved by his family and will be missed more than words can express.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy Zeiders Shomper; daughter Jody Troutman (Keith), son John Shomper Jr. (Barb), daughter Jacqueline Wiest (Sean) and daughter Joetta Schade (Doug). John had 10 grandchildren, Michael (Sherrie), Emma (Timm), Shannon (Eric), Tauwnee, Scott, Ian, Hannah, Tyler, Tiffany (Cory) and Brandi. He had 7 great grandchildren, Letty, Shay, Lily, Evan, Isabella, Addison, and Bryson. And 2 surviving brothers Ronald and Richard.
He was preceded in death by 7 brothers, Clair, Leroy, Thomas, Arthur, Joseph, James and Clayton and 5 sisters, Verna Rummel, Anna Shomper, Betty Bostic, Linda Gonder and Jane Webster.
The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of UPMC Osteopathic, and all the family and friends that offered such great support.
