John "Wayne" Mansfield, 71, of La Pine, Oregon, passed away on July 2nd, 2025. Born on September 25, 1953, in Omaha, Nebraska, Wayne was the beloved son of Esther T. Mansfield and John H. Mansfield.
Wayne spent his early years in Iowa and Nebraska, where he developed a lifelong love for farming and animals which was fostered by his active involvement in FFA, and was evident by his love for his horses Gracie and Audrey that he had with him the last few years of his life. After high school, Wayne traveled around and ended up in Colorado, where he met his future wife Patricia. She worked at Record City, a store her parents owned, and he purchased an album from her. Needless to say music was a big part of his life after that! Wayne and Patricia were married June 26th, 1977, and not long after moved to Oregon where he lived the rest of his life.
Wayne began his professional life in sales and later found a long and adventurous career at NIKE. In his later years, Wayne enjoyed driving a school bus for the Bend-La Pine School District, where he found true joy in making the ride to and from school fun and safe for students each day.
Wayne's greatest accomplishment in life however was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife Patricia Mansfield, his children; daughter Sara Mosher (Chris), son Nathaniel Mansfield (Brittany), son Joseph Mansfield (Alyson), and honorary daughter Deanna Baker, his five grandchildren; Andrew Mosher, Wyatt Mosher, Hunter Mansfield, Lillian Mansfield and Annabelle Mansfield- all of whom were the light of his life. Wayne cherished attending their many events, including dance recitals, the Nutcracker ballet, sporting events, Peewee Rodeo, BMX races, trap shooting competitions, Oregon Battle of the Books, and the Deschutes County Fair 4H exhibits. It didn't matter how far he had to travel; he never thought twice about driving three and a half hours to and from in a day, or even twelve hours once his daughter's family relocated to Montana to be present for his kids and grandkids. He is also survived by 5 brother-in-laws, 5 sisters-in-laws,15 nieces & nephews, and 22 great-nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Esther, his in-laws Clyde and Phyllis Haines, three half sisters (Shirley, Donna and Edith Robinette), one great niece and one great nephew.
Wayne's kindness, selflessness, quick wit, humor and smile will be deeply missed by all who knew him!
A celebration of Wayne's life will be held on Saturday, August 9th, from 2:00–5:00 p.m. at Prince of Peace Church, 14175 NW Cornell Road, Portland, Oregon.
