Obituary of J. Edward Young
DEFREESTVILLE –
J. Edward Young of Defreestville died peacefully on September 30, 2025, at home. Born in Glens Falls in 1934, he was the son of Marion and Arthur Young. He lived in Chestertown and then in Delmar. Ed was a graduate of Bethlehem Central High School, Springfield College, Ithaca College, and served two years in the army. He enjoyed teaching and coaching in the Averill Park Central Schools.
Married for 66 special years, he is survived by his loving wife, Dottie. Ed was devoted to his daughters, son-in-law, grandchildren, his sisters-in-law, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. His brother Ron and sister-in-law Joan pre-deceased him. Ed dearly loved his family.
Ed enjoyed sports, anything active and preferably outdoors, trees, camping, music, speaking engagements, and especially family times. He was an active member of his church.
The family thanks those who cared for him and those who supported him with visits, cards, and phone calls.
A celebration of life service will be held November 1, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church of East Greenbush.
