After retirement, Jack and Brenda Kay moved south to Grove, OK to be closer to her family and spent a lot of time at their vacation home in Port Aransas, TX (North Padre).
Jack was an avid bicycle rider and spent a lot of time on the roads of Iowa and later could be seen riding his Trek around Grove, OK as well. He looked forward to riding his bicycle across the state of Iowa every year during Ragbrai. Jack was happiest outdoors. He enjoyed gardening both flowers and vegetables, bird watching and loved to talk about trees. The family spent a lot of time on their Mark Twain boat when the boys and grandchildren were young, water skiing and fishing.
