Jack Dye Obituary

Jack Dye was born April 9, 1931, in Cleveland, Tennessee, to Norman Dye of Monroe County and Callie Gee Dye of Polk County. He was educated at Neely School in Rome, Rome High School, and the University of Georgia.

Jack proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and later served the community as an officer with the Rome City Police Department for 17 years. He found his truest vocation in teaching. As a professor of Heating and Air Conditioning at Coosa Valley Technical College (now Georgia Northwestern Technical College), he taught with discipline and conviction, believing that doing the job right was inseparable from doing right by people. He also operated as a Manitowoc service technician. Jack lived by a simple rule: "If you're gonna do it, do it right, or don't do it at all."

Jack was a proud member of the Marine Corps League in Rome. He was of the Baptist faith and most recently attended Fellowship Baptist Church. On March 3, 1957, he married Barbara Allred Dye. They were happily married for 60 years. Jack will be remembered for his humor, tenderness, and steadfast devotion to family. He was a constant, loving presence in the lives of his family. He will be deeply missed, and there was truly no one like him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Callie Gee Dye and Norman Dye; his wife, Barbara Allred Dye; and two sisters, Norma Brumbelow and Margaret Brinson.

He is survived by his daughter, Diana Dye Wall of Rome, Georgia; two grandchildren, Erin Cescutti-Restrepo (Daniel) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Jack H. Wall (Olivia) of Athens, Georgia; a cherished great-grandson, Jack Mitchell Wall; two sisters, Penny Martischnig (Jack) of Rome, Georgia, and Joan Millholin (John) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Patty Stephens of Jacksonville, FL; brother-in-law, Robert Brinson of Rome and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 3pm until 5pm on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel. Jack will be interred at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens in a private ceremony at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest donations be made to Georgia Northwestern Technical College Foundation, in memory of Jack Dye.
